About the Night 3 July, 1996

     The Night draws breath
       exhaling musky darkness
      moist and intoxicating
      for those who dare inhale

     Thieves, restless thieves
    torture the moon's derision
     as clouds form a cover
    barely allowing light to escape
     to the eyes of those on earth

    Freedom comes from expression
    where my expression
       is stilted
    perhaps it will not always
        be

   Of doubt, I am certain
    I believe life to be uncertain
     in its artistry

  the moon candle flickers light
        with the racing of clouds
   one mass daring the other
     to pass

   and in the Night
     as the night exhales its mist
    I can be assured that life
     continues, which doesn't waiver
    with the dusk nor the dawn
    and tears with the sunrise
     cascade with the memory
          of the Night

and a copy of the poem will be written on the back of the artist's canvas.
